Making up

Fold squares for ears in half and stitch sides. Stitch up sides of head and stuff with scraps of wadding. Place eyes, attach ears, stitch nose and mouth, and stitch in whiskers. Fold body in half and fold in top corners and overstitch one side leaving other side open for attaching head later.

Cut out lining and padding – lining 4in (10cm) extra to allow 2in (5cm) bottom hem. Pin and tack the padding and lining together, folding lining hem over the padding. Joint top sides and bottom hems with permanent stitching (can be machined). Place inside cat’s body and pull to shape before tacking into place. Stitch lining and padding to the body side openings, overstitch side seams.

Stitch up tail and stuff with scraps of wadding. Attach tail at the left side and either stitch to the body or use Velcro strips. Firmly attach head to the right opening, stitching through lining and wadding. Make a loop (optional) to attach for hanging.
