Making up

Note: Sew up all row-end seams on right side using mattress stitch one stitch in from the edge, unless otherwise stated; a one-stitch seam allowance has been allowed for this.

Mattress stitch

Sew up row ends using mattress stitch, one stitch in from edge by taking small straight stitches back and forth on the right side of work (see illustration). A one-stitch seam allowance has been allowed for this.

Tail

Make a twisted cord out of three strands of pink yarn beginning with strands 24in (60cm) long. Tie a knot 4in (10cm) from folded end and trim ends beyond knot. Gather round cast-on stitches of Mouse and enclose knotted end of tail in centre, pull tight and secure and sew through knot on wrong side to secure.

Body and Head

Sew up row ends of body and head leaving a gap in the middle. Stuff head and body, first pushing a tiny ball of stuffing into nose with tweezers or tip
of scissors, and sew up gap.

Ears

Position ears and sew ears to Mouse at top of head.

Features

Embroider eyes in black with two tiny stitches close together over half a stitch for each eye (see page 164 for how to begin and fasten off the embroidery invisibly). Embroider nose in bright pink, making three horizontal stitches close together at tip of nose.
