Designer and Knitting contributor Sarah Hazell answers our quick-fire quesions
In the knitting world I'm best known for…
My enthusiasm for colour
My weapons of choice are…
Rowan Wool Cotton 4ply and fine tipped needles
The project/design I am most proud of is…
A lace shawl I made last year for a workshop using Rowan Fine Lace and Kidsilk Stripe in alternating rows of star stitch - glorious!
My biggest knitting disaster was…
My first Fairisle. I didn't know how to carry the yarns properly and the little people in the pattern were three dimensional.
If you could only use one stitch for the rest of your life what would it be?
Moss stitch. Things always look expensive and well-considered in this stitch.
The best knitting advice I've ever had was…
From my mum - just do a little bit every day and then you will get the hang of it. Without her gentle encouragement, I would not be where I am today!
What would you say to a non-knitter to try and convert them?
You don't know what you are missing! Knitting is a chance to soothe and inspire and pass on skills.
When I'm not knitting, I'm…
Crocheting, patchworking and occasionally stitching. I also love eating out and shopping!
Describe your crafty self in three words:
Enthusiastic, organised and totally absorbed!
Ball of wool and a cup of tea or skein of silk and a glass of wine?
The 17 year old says the latter, the reality these days is the former - drat!
