Autumn Colours -1

(Image from themobilewallpaper.blogspot.ca)

However lovely summer is, each year as we get into August I find myself longing for autumn, I think it is definitely my favourite season. Working on magazines, times of the year get a bit mixed up, as we're always working at least three months ahead!

At the moment we're getting stuck into the autumn issues of Knitting, and there are some stunning projects and articles coming up. I thought I would share with you some of my own autumn knitting inspiration. I haven't yet started my staple scarf; each autumn I knit myself a new one in the scrummiest of yarns, but I have started planning... in my head at least!

Boots

Each autumn also comes with the quest for the perfect pair of boots, which always starts me daydreaming about knitting boot toppers and socks. I have to admit, I am a sock addict! I'm eyeing up some sock yarns in gorgeous autumnal colours, reminiscent of falling leaves and woodland walks.

Naturally, hats, scarves and gloves are necessary as the season progresses, but this year I am definitely going to be opting for mittens. No, they are not just for children... unless you tie them to your coat with string! But what colour? That is the question! Maybe I'll just have to knit several!

What I think I really want to dedicate my knitting time and attention to, though, is a fantastic cape. I've decided that a cape is the ultimate autumn garment, and a lovely red one might just be the answer! Of course, if I do go down that route, I don't think anybody will be getting any knitted Christmas presents!

What about you? What is your favourite time of year, and what is your favourite season to knit for? Have you started knitting for autumn yet, or are you firmly stuck in lacy summer knits?

The summer holidays are only just beginning but our September issue is about to go on sale Thursday, which actually means it's August next week! How did that happen?

For those of you who were enjoying us Facebooking throughout our shoot at the amazing Grand Ocean appartments in Saltdean, East Sussex, which was once a fabulous deco hotel that doubled up as the 'Grand Metropolitan' in an episode of Poirot, this is that issue!

For those of you who didn't see those pics, what started out as a retro 60s 'what to wear to the office but still look glamorous' theme became a '20s/'30s deco-inspired 'what to wear to the office but still look glamorous' shoot. If you have to go back to work in September, why not look fab doing it!

This Collarette top by Pat Menchini is so chic yet so simple. Cigerette pants or a pencil skirt look amazing with it.

I just love this uber-glamorous Milan peplum top by Judy Furlong. There's just no way you coud walk around in this and not feel fabulous.

This cute Swing jacket hits quite a few new season trends in one go - monochrome, Mad Men, houndstooth.

We have an amazing EXCLUSIVE design from Ruth and Belinda in this issue, in fact, we have two! They have combined their talents to create two coats in one. Move over, darling is a simple, elegant cardigan by Ruth...

... which you can then extend to turn it into a glamorous long lace panel coat, Darling, move over by Belinda. Inspired by Doris Day, one is chic, the other oozes film star glamour.

This amazingly soft Bear track stole by Caroline Birkett in Rowan Kid Classic, is such an amazing shade, and we love the little collar detail. It's those little extra touches that make things look and feel such good quality.

4 July 2013

Well, they have promised us that summer starts tomorrow, and it's going to last more than a week - A WEEK! - so you could say our August issue is timely. Although, when we were putting this issue togther, you can never can tell what the weather is going to do, on the shoot day or the day it goes on sale, so we decided to go with a theme that makes everybody happy and cheerful, whatever the weather - florals.

We've also been loving the mix and match of prints and textures as seen on the catwalk so decided to go wild with our floral theme for the shoot. We think it looks great! Is there such a thing as too much floral? Nope!

Martin storey's sweet Floral edge cardigan is the perfect dainty cover up for wedding season.
